5 Healthy-ish Summer Drinks

Written by Jenna Ray, Dietetics Student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison

Summer is upon us, so if you’re looking for a new summer drink to add to your weekly lineup, look no further. I’ve got you covered with five delicious recipes to spice up your summer... all with a little flare of nutrition! No matter if you’re a vodka soda-drinker, strictly a seltzer person, or a cocktail queen, I have something for you!

And just as easy as it is to make these recipes, they can be made non-alcoholic just as easily!

Disclaimer: Even though these drinks have a little added nutrition with some of the ingredients, they should still be consumed in moderation (as with any other alcoholic beverage). For those who do drink alcohol, I hope you enjoy these healthier options!

Cheers everyone!

Joe’s Spicy Marg

Who doesn’t love a good spicy marg?! Especially with Trader Joe’s spicy lemonade!

Serves 1

  • 1 oz 100% agave tequila

  • 1 oz Cointreau

  • 2 oz Trader Joe’s Spicy Mango Lemonade

  • 1 oz fresh lime juice

  • Lime wedges & jalapeno slices for garnish

  • Tajín for glass rim

Instructions:

1. Salt the rim of a glass with Tajín (or coarse sea salt).

2. Combine tequila, Cointreau, lemonade, lime juice, and ice in a cocktail shaker. Give it a really good shake for at least 10 seconds (this is what makes a marg slightly foamy on top).

3. Fill a glass with ice cubes. Pour the contents of the cocktail shaker into the glass and garnish with fresh lime, jalapenos, and/or mango slices.

Summer Spindrift Sangria

What really takes the cake in this recipe is the strawberry Spindrift - you have to try it!

Serves 4

  • 2 strawberry Spindrifts

  • 6-8 Rainier cherries, pitted and sliced

  • 5-6 large strawberries, sliced

  • 1 large peach, sliced

  • Bottle of dry white wine (i.e Sauvignon Blanc)

  • 1 tbsp honey (optional)

Instructions:

1. Add the sliced peaches, cherries, and strawberries into a large pitcher. Cover the fruit mixture with the bottle of wine and let this sit for 2-6 hours in the fridge.

2. When ready to serve, pour the sangria mix into wine glasses and top with strawberry Spindrift.

Raspberry Rosé Spritzer

Refreshing, bubbly, extremely easy, and 100% chuggable.

Poppi is a lightly sweetened bubbly apple cider vinegar drink, which is cool because ACV has been researched for potential benefits for skin, digestion, and cholesterol. Either way, we just love how this drink tastes!

Serves 2

  • Rosé wine

  • 1 can Raspberry Rose Poppi

  • Optional: sliced jalapenos

Instructions:

1. Fill two wine glasses with 1/2 Rosé and 1/2 Raspberry Rose Poppi - throw some raspberries on top if it sounds good to you!

2. We love adding fresh sliced jalapenos to this a la @Tinx - the spice is awesome!

If you’re a fan of the Starbucks pink drink or just love something that’s a little sweet, then this recipe is for you.

  • 1 Tbsp unsweetened coconut milk/unsweetened coconut yogurt

2. Strain mixture into a glass with ice
