Hi! I'm Emmy.
Emmy Bawden MS, RDN, CD, LDN
Founder of real good nutrition
I'm a Registered, Licensed, and Certified Dietitian Nutritionist specializing in Medical Nutrition Therapy and realistic wellness. I'm based in Madison, Wisconsin.
I Get it.
Perhaps like you, I also asked myself the question "What's a dietitian and how can one help me?" which was shortly followed with "What the $#@% is gluten?" after learning I was newly diagnosed with Celiac disease. Challenged by a lack of nutritional knowledge and some serious health scares, I developed a strained relationship with food to say the least. Seeking the care of a Registered Dietitian helped me manage my diet and digestive balance so I could get my health back on track. This experience led me to discover my love for supporting others going through their own battles with nutrition and health, and helping my patients find relief from the digestive woes that I know all too well is my personal passion. Having been a patient before I became a dietitian lets me connect with you on a different, much more personal level.
In other words, I've been there. Even if it's just a small part of the whole, I know how you're feeling and I hear you.
Only the real good stuff.
After almost 10 years of experience in the healthcare industry in a variety of capacities, I felt that the typical inpatient approach to nutrition therapy and healthcare in general lacked individualization, authenticity, and a true sense of preventative care. Because I feel nutrition therapy needs to be personal, I left my scrubs behind to connect with my patients in a more meaningful way. I'll work with you to find real-life approaches to realize your health goals, whatever that means for you. No judgments, no quick-fixes. Just individualized care and sustainable change that starts exactly where you are today. No idea how to cook? Busy work schedule? Not into salads? I can work with all of that because I want to make the whole process enjoyable for you. That's why my philosophy is about "realistic wellness."
Clinically trained with a real-life approach.
I entered in the healthcare industry as a physician's Practice Manager after completing my first Bachelor's degree in Social Welfare from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. After returning to the University of Minnesota for a Bachelor's degree in Dietetics and Nutrition, I completed my dietetic training residency at the Cleveland Clinic's Center for Human Nutrition with an emphasis on clinical medical nutrition therapy.
A perpetual student, I went on to complete my Master's degree in Health Administration from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science. I am also a member of the Wisconsin Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Dietitians in Integrative and Functional Medicine Practice Group. I specialize in Medical Nutrition Therapy, and I've provided care to treat and prevent acute and chronic illnesses as part of the medical team in long-term care, inpatient hospital, and outpatient clinic environments.
I can't wait to meet you!
